Transferring money to a Halifax account - do I need the roll number

First Post

On Monday I will need to transfer some money from my Lloyds TSB current account to a Halifax current account. Faster payments can't be sent via Lloyds' online banking yet, so I will have to give them the details over the phone. Do I need to give the Halifax roll number as a reference, or are the sort code and account number sufficient?

Halifax won't need your roll number to direct the money to your account. The sort code and 8-digit account number will suffice.

If LTSB's systems insist (some banks do!) on *something* in the reference field, then you can either give them your roll number or just tell them to put "from LTSB FP" or something similar.

Huh? Why does faster banking (or lack thereof) prevent you from setting up a standing order or payment from online banking? I managed it from LTSB to Halifax RS.

Use the roll number as the reference anyway - that way you can find it if you ever need it in the future (like if you need to ring them up. I would have said to also add to your halifax online banking, but they'll take either the roll number or sort code/account number.)

I think the OP meant that as faster payments with ltsb can be done via phone banking but not with online banking, the OP intends to phone up, and was unsure whether doing a transfer over the phone would mean different information would be needed.

You are correct in the information you gave though so all OK.
